Recently I attended a Tony Robbins training, and during that challenge with Tony, I heard something that I had heard before, but it hit me differently.
"We don't do what we can. We do what we think we are."
He was talking about this in the context of your identity.
What is your current identity?
Because what you do and what you set out to accomplish will be 100% correlated to that identity.
Let me give you an example. When I launched my business, I created this identify: I'm a leadership expert, motivational speaker, career strategist, and #1 bestselling author. That was the persona that I created after being in the corporate world for over 25 years. With that new identity, I took on all the projects that I accomplished to launch and grow.
What about you? What identity will help you achieve the goals you have set out for yourself?
Here's another example.
I typically train at my local cross-fit gym three times a week. I do that consistently because one of my identities is that I am an athlete. I've believed this about myself since I was a young girl.
Now I'm 51 years old--I am no athlete (LOL). However, I am still active because being an athletic person is part of my identity.
What is that identity that you need to identify with and say, I am ______ (fill in the blank); therefore, people who are this, do _______ (what you want to accomplish). Try it. It works.
Bringing It All Together:
When you claim that you are a leader or an expert in some area, you act as the expert and leader in that area.
Get clear on the identity that will help you meet your desires and achieve your business and personal goals--act as if and see what happens. You may be shocked at what you discover.
